The taller corns grew like weeds this week! The combo of weekend rain and a warmer early week have inspired a humongous growth spurt.
The sun was super bright, so this is kind of a crappy photo, but look how much they’ve grown. This is the corn the first time I stood among it for photos:
On June 3, Carrie Corn was 18″. Last week (June 17), she was 35″. Yesterday, she was 55″! That’s a 3-ft growth in 3 weeks, and a 20″ spurt in just the last 7 days!
On June 3, James Corn was a wee 7″. June 17, he was 20″. Yesterday, he was only 24″, so he is not growing as fast as some of his siblings. I think he’s just not getting much light anymore. Poor James Corn!
I don’t have pics of the rest of the garden for you today, although exciting news! Some of my potatoes are blooming, and that means that somewhere under there, baby potatoes are being born!
The peas are about done. The spinach is nearing the end of its lifespan. A few early onions have been picked & eaten (and I attribute Saturday’s delicious guacamole to the fact that it contained homegrown onions!), and the green beans are approachingn eatability.
The squashes continue to do well, as do the black beans. I expect to see wee baby tomatoes & peppers any day now.
And Tuesday evening, the architect & I had this for dinner:
Surprisingly, there’s a lot of stuff to do at work when you only come in for a couple of days. Between that & school work, I feel a bit reclusive this week.

I just wish I’d had some of the fantastic guac before it was all gone. Must buy avocadoes at the market today!

we had that problem a couple of years ago. I don’t know what the difference is this year, but I’m loving it!

soon, there will be surpluses of things that I will be trying to unload.
i can’t believe you got broc! mine always bolt before forming a head. I pulled my pea plants last night, they were done already. I made sure to save about 20 pods so i’ll have some seeds for next year.
and i do have about 20 green tomatoes on the vine already, and we had squash and zuc’s from the garden for dinner last night. my corn is still only about a foot tall though. happy gardening!

the first year I grew broccoli, we didn’t get any, but we’ve been successful the last couple of year. It’s so good!
the only peas left on the vine are next years seed. I need to go pull them this weekend. No squash or zucchini yet, but soon, I think! green beans soon, too.

I would love to have a garden but I can’t keep a plant alive to save my life!

I’m terrible with houseplants, for some reason. If the architect didn’t care for them, we’d have very little inside – but the garden is my baby!

Look at all that green! I’m impressed. I’m guessing Portland doesn’t have an issue with deer… Our garden was eaten to the ground by those damb Bambies! Not much they didn’t chomp on!

I’m fortunate that where I live, deer are not a problem. My big pest is moles. Other places in town definitely have deer problems.
I’m afraid the next photo’s will be the corn telling Amy to committ very bad things…

Yummy garden! We are hopeful that the past week of 90 + degree days didn’t bake our’s into oblivion.
I’ve never been the TALLEST anything my whole life. I’m so proud.
