November, 2009:

Training Goals – 11/30/09 – 12/6/09

Not only is it the last day of November, today is also my 30th day in a row of blogging! Once again, I completed NaBloPoMo! Go me!

And now – the recap:

Goals: 11/23 – 11/29

Monday: Mild cardio – 45 minutes or so – FAIL! I rested instead.

Tuesday: Post-work hill run with the Ambitious One! WOO! – SUCCESS! And it was good!

Wednesday: weights (45 minutes) + bike – FAIL! Too much stuff (school, sports massage & meal prep)

Thursday: Turkey Trot! 10K (slowwwwww 10K) – Half success. I trotted only 5K.

Friday: weights (45 minutes) + home yoga – SUCCESS (mostly); I did the weights & ran 2 miles

Saturday: Spin class at 10 AM. – FAIL (kind of). Instead I took advantage of the beautimous weather (and my soreness from the previous day & did 2 hours of gardening. I planted 75 tulips, which meant I did 75 squats, so that counts for something, right?)

Sunday: Run – 5-6 miles. – FAIL (kind of). I again took advantage of the beautiful weather to finish up my gardening for fall – planted 6 rows of onions & garlic, spread mulch, tilled the garden (without a tiller, because I am poor hardcore) and weeded. Two more hours of yardwork counts for something!

Wow – this is a week of fail. Although I still got 6.5 hours of exercise, because I totally count yardwork as exercise.

So – on to this week.

Monday: Bike to work (so far so good); and if I have any energy upon returning home, run. I would really like to get 5.25 miles in tonight to round out my November mileage (which is pretty pathetic).

Tuesday: Bike to work & post-work weights.

Wednesday: Post-work run.

Thursday: I am again committing to my 5:30 spin class that I haven’t yet made it to even once.

Friday: Rest day.

Saturday: Easy run

Sunday: I’m hoping for a nice easy walk; nothing major.

I would also like to try to fit in another day of weights at some point. We’ll see how that goes.  Again, just trying for about 7 hours of exercise this week.

You’d think it was some kind of holiday weekend or something

where is everyone? Are you all comatose from the turkey? I hope all my Portland peeps have been enjoying our fantastic weather (I know I’ve spent more time in the garden in the last two days than in the previous two months combined) and have NOT been drinking the water. Unless you’re me – I think our water is fine.

I am a little sad that it’s Sunday evening. I kind of like not having to go to work. There has been so much relaxing and doing school work and working out that I don’t want to go back to having that ‘job-thing’ even if it does conveniently pay me in cashy money.

Today I picked up our Christmas tree – it’s so pretty and the cats are entranced – and that’s even without ornaments.

I also got my over-winter garlic & onions planted (I may have gotten a bit carried away, I planted 80 garlic plants) and yesterday I planted another 75 tulips (I love tulips – along with lilacs, they are my favorite flowers). The winter mulch is down in the front & hopefully it will do its duty & suppress all the weeds. The main garden is mostly covered with leaves which should decompose nicely over the next few months. I got a couple of houseplants repotted – and they are already looking MUCH happier. All in all – a productive weekend.

But now – it’s schoolwork time again!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend and are not (unlike me) still eating cookies for breakfast every day.

Every weekend should be a five-day weekend.

This is awesome!

There has been running and feasts and movies and yardwork (which I love, shut up) and homework (which I don’t). And there has still been plenty of time left over for lazing & relaxing & doing nothing.

And now – I have to move on to the trying to recover from the sting of a flying evil monster. (my face! it is on fire! and why do I get stung in the face in November – shouldn’t all the flying stingers be dead or hibernating or something?) After that, I think there may be a beer.

There’s a Bathroom on the Right

After recovering from the food coma, today was a fairly productive day. There was cleaning & homework & a gym visit. And then, a movie with some of my best girls (including the blogless Kris).

I must say that although I was a little embarrassed to be going to the movie in the theater, I’m glad I went. It was a lot of fun -and better than the first. There were audible gasps at certain points, and except for the asshat who brought her six year old, it was an awesome evening.

Where’s a countdown clock when you need one?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Because every once in awhile, I can manage a nice post where I’m not bitching about people at the gym, or grad school, or whatever – I want to tell you the things that I am thankful for today.

1. My PBRs. Seriously – the best group of friends a runner (or anyone, really) could have. Love you all: Alisa, Mr. Pi, Sarah, Zach, IronJen, Emily, Cindy & Erika. (Also, as Sarah & I noted this morning, it is our one year anniversary of knowing Emily! YAY!)

2. My kick-ass neighbors. You guys are super awesome, and honestly, I can’t imagine better people living next door. Unless they were, Johnny Depp, or a suddenly 18-year-old Taylor Lautner or something.

3. My knitting girls. None of whom have blogs, so I can’t link to them. Dammit! You guys make knitting (and drinking wine & eating cheese) so much fun.

4. Beer. And Portland. And the beer in Portland.

5. Running. Such a huge part of my life – it’s definitely made my life more enjoyable AND has helped me meet a lot of cool people (see #1 above).

6. Books. I love to read – and I am currently only about 4 books away from reaching my 52 new books for the year goal. I will definitely make it. Also, I love the library, which is keeping me from going broke while reading a book a week.

7. All of you. You guys are awesome. Thanks for stopping by & commenting & making me feel that we live in such a great world.

8. Cats. I love my little monsters, and can’t imagine life without waking up with no covers because the cats were apparently cold.

9. Family – especially the family members that loaned me a table & chairs so I could accommodate the 14 people that will be showing up today!

10. The architect. He is the best, most amazing husband who has ever lived and I feel lucky to have him. He is so supportive of whatever I decide to do (marathons! triathlons! grad school!) and hardly ever never complains when I’m being ridiculous. Life would not be nearly as good without him (love you!).

I hope that you are all having a happy Thanksgiving (or, you know, if you’re not from the US – a GREAT Thursday) surrounded by those you love. I know I am!
