2012:

Fitness Friday

This week, I finally started feeling (mostly) like myself again. I was, however, also reminded that I still need to take it slow, because that feeling is a LIE! (Or at least a bit misleading.)

BUT – let’s see how I did with this week’s goals:

Training Goals – 5/11/12 – 5/17/12

Friday: Walk 1 mile – SUCCESS! I actually walked 1.5 miles

Saturday: Rest/enjoy parade/walk downtown – FAIL! I did not rest. I did enjoy most of the parade & also did an hour of yard work/landscaping.

Sunday: Walk 1 mile – SUCCESS! Kind of. I walked 3/4 of a mile after doing a good 2 hours of gardening. That was much harder than I remember (the gardening, not the walking). The entire garden, except for tomatoes & peppers, is now in. And wow, I was sore the next day!

Monday: Rest – FAIL! No resting for me! I walked 1.8ish miles with the architect in the evening.

Tuesday: Walk 1.5 miles – SUCCESS! I walked only a mile, but after the day before, I think that’s okay. I also did 30 minutes of unscheduled yoga, so that definitely ups the count.

Wednesday: Rest – SUCCESS! I rested! Go me!

Thursday: Walk 1.5 miles – FAIL!  I did not walk yesterday. BOO!

Total goal mileage: 5 miles

Total actual mileage: 5.08 miles

Total goal other activities: 0

Total actual other: 3.5 hours (yard work & yoga)

Overall – SUCCESS! Yay!

Now for the next week:

Training Goals – 5/18/12 – 5/24/12

Friday: Walk 1 mile +

Saturday: Yoga – FOR REALS – at a studio and everything!

Sunday: Swimming – I would love to do 1000 yds minimum, but will listen to my body & see what happens.

Monday: Walk 1 mile

Tuesday: Walk 2 miles

Wednesday: Rest

Thursday: Walk 2 miles

Total goal mileage: 6 miles

Total goal other: 2 hours

Three (3!) Things Thursday

1. Sorry I missed the baby update yesterday, but I was busy doing important baby related stuff. (It is too baby-related – Alvie Bean needs to know about such things…you wouldn’t want me to neglect his education, would you?)

Mommy's Little Gamer

2. Question for those in the know – when will this extra hair out? Please tell me it’s soon. I am resigned to the fact that my extra boobs are here to stay for the duration of nursing, but really would like to move on from the extra hair. It’s driving me insane. I feel like Cousin Itt.

3. I am so ready to start exercising for real! I have been walking, and that’s been okay, but I need more! I yoga’d a bit this week. And, by a bit, I mean I pull out my prenatal yoga video and did 30 minutes (before the baby was hungry). It went pretty well. I’ve lost some flexibility – I couldn’t grab my foot to even start getting into Natarajasana – which is weird (I was still doing Urdhva Dhanurasana at 30 weeks, so it’s frustrating that I’ve lost so much flexibility). I noticed a little soreness in my…girly-parts area in some poses – most notably extended side angle (which is weird, since triangle felt just fine – and yes, I noticed that I switched from Sanskrit – bite me). ANYWAYS – yoga = good, and I can’t wait to get back to where I was. I practiced yoga up to 38 weeks (and only missed the last couple of weeks due to conflict, not due to inability), and am ready to get back to that AND to swimming. (And boy, I wish I had a picture of me doing upward bow (i.e. urdhva dhanurasana) at the beach house at New Year’s. I bet that was awesome (and by awesome, I mean hilarious). Since I don’t, you’ll have to be content with a picture of Alvie going for a walk.

Shoesday

Today is International Fluevog Day. This is a very important holiday that should result in a day off work. Shoes are serious business.

To celebrate, I am using my saved up shoe funds to buy a pair of Fluevogs. I have long longed for a pair, but was never quite ready for the investment. However, I haven’t purchased a pair of shoes for about a year, when I got a couple post-foot surgery shoes. I certainly haven’t gotten any since I was pregnant. I have, however, been socking away a bit of money every time I deliberately did not hit “submit” on a shoe order, and now I have enough money saved up to buy a beautiful pair of shoes. AND, since today there is free shipping (and 15% off all in-store orders), today is the day that I will finally become a Fluevog owner.

There are a couple of pairs that I contemplated:

Daily Miracles Fortune

Miracles Hollie

Now I just need to make a decision…some choices are so hard! (The “buy both” is not a economically feasible choice, unfortunately.)

No go forth & buy shoes! (Size 6.5 american for all non-athletic shoes, in case you’re wondering.)

Fitness Friday

Back in the old days (pre-pregnancy & pre-foot surgery), I did training goals every week & then reported on them to keep myself on track.

As I am now slowly (really, really slowly) easing back into an exercise routine, I am going to do that again. This will serve partially as a motivator to myself (if I put it out there, I’m much more likely to follow through) as well as a invitation for anyone to tell me that I’m getting crazy if it appears that I have forgotten my slow & sensible plans.

I tend to be an all or nothing person – and get a leetle carried away at times with the ambition. Also, since I have never trained and been a mom at the same time, I do welcome some advice in balancing everything! Also, sports bra advice would be welcome. I’m not actually sure there are sports bras big enough anymore – there are some truly terrifying things happening under my shirt. (Well, terrifying to me – the guys I live with don’t seem frightened.)

So – training goals will run Friday – Thursday. I don’t work on Fridays, so it’s a good start to  my training week, I think.

Training Goals – 5/11/12 – 5/17/12

Friday: Walk 1 mile

Saturday: Rest/enjoy parade/walk downtown

Sunday: Walk 1 mile

Monday: Rest

Tuesday: Walk 1.5 miles

Wednesday: Rest

Thursday: Walk 1.5 miles

That seems reasonable, right? Total mileage for the week: 5 miles

Next week, I will add in swimming & yoga! Yay! And soon, I will start couch-to-5King, and Alvie & I will be using the Bob stroller (that’s when you’ll know we’re hard core).

Three (3!) Things Thursday

1. I cannot wait to start swimming again. CANNOT wait. I need to be exercisey again.

2. I can totally get my 1st trimester jeans (i.e. not maternity jeans) on – not buttoned yet – but on.

3. Diablo III comes out next week, and at the risk of sounding excessively dorky – I cannot wait. Seriously – I pre-ordered this game almost 3 years ago.
