When disasters happen, I used to be able to sit back, grieve, feel a great deal of empathy for the victims and their families. And then move on with my day, thankful that it wasn’t me & mine who were killed/hurt/injured/homeless.
Now, I can’t do that unless there are no children affected. When I read about shootings in elementary schools; children swept out into the surf after storms or hurricanes or flooding; or tornadoes hitting elementary students I can’t just move on and let go.
Reading about elementary schools being decimated by tornadoes, and seeing the bloody teachers leading the surviving students out after the storm gives me a lump in my throat that won’t go away.
I’d like to say that I can’t imagine sending my Bean to school and having him never come home, but I can. And that sucks. So, whether you, too, are affected this way, or whether you can grieve, be thankful, and move on – if you can afford it, please give a bit to help out the victims of yesterday’s tornadoes in Oklahoma.
