Word Nerd (in training): Onomasticon

I am committing to weekly word nerd posts in my attempt to improve my vocabulary. My goal is to find a word that I would actually use in conversation (or in blogging), post about it, and then use it at least once a day for the next week. If you have an awesome word that the world would be better for knowing, let me know!

onomasticon \ on-uh-MAS-ti-kon, -kuhn \  noun;

  1. A list or collection of proper names.
  2. A list or collection of specialized terms, as those used in a particular field or subject area.

Used in a sentence (of my own devising): Whenever I start a new job, one of the first things I do is create an onomasticon of industry-specific acronyms to help me interpret everything I come across.

This is such a great word. I love lists and collections! I cannot wait to throw this bad boy out in casual conversation.
