All About Amy

Hello! I am Amy. This is my site.

Every few months, I come here & update the “I am” section. It started out as “I am a writer.” Then I realized I was also talking a lot about running. So it became “runner/writer.” Then I realized I spend more time at work than I do writing, so I added working stiff. And then, I started grad school.  Now, although I am still all of those things (although some thing more often than others), they don’t really define who I am.

I am Amy. And I am passionately interested in being me. Today, I am a working stiff. Tonight I am a friend & yoga practitioner. Later this week, I will be a grad student, and a cyclist, and an urban hippie. I make my own cheese (sometimes), and grow lots of food in my big garden, and am constantly searching for more ways to bring more sustainability into my life and my home and then, to the world!

I live in Portland with my husband (the architect), and my three wonderful children:

Lola

Darwin

and Jasmin

Yes, I know they’re cats. But, they are still my babies. Only, I can leave them at home during the day when I’m at work, and I don’t have to pay for daycare. That makes me happy. Also? My cats are too dumb to ever get into college, so I’m saving a lot of money there. And, because they are lacking opposable thumbs, they can never call child services on me, or make therapy appointments, or dial 900 numbers when I’m at work. They are like extra cheap kids. The best kind.

I write a lot about the architect. I don’t write much about my job (thanks Dooce). I used to write about writing. I will tell you every time I fall down (which I do more frequently than recommended). I also talk about running and weight loss and exercising and food much more than is interesting, unless you’re me. I will be writing more about being an urban hippie domestic goddess gardener, and the changes you can make to make your life more sustainable (both financially AND environmentally).

Click on the links! Some of them are real friends, some of them are virtual friends, and some of them are bloggers that I secretly (although, since I’m writing this, not-so-secretly anymore) adore and want to be friends with. Not to the point that I would actually stalk any of them (they all live really far away), but I do obsessively reload their blog pages.

I started blogging because I am a sheep, and everyone else was doing it. But then? I loved it. So, I bought a domain and swore at my computer for three or four months. Although now, it seems to be working okay…but I don’t trust it. I’m pretty much hoping to get really really famous and win awards, and have companies offer me money for ad space so that I can quit my job & be a full-time writer. So, refresh often. Help me be popular.

Important facts about me: I fall down a lot. The architect often says to me: “Babe, you are so graceful–graceful like a gazelle–ON CRACK!” (guess what the inspiration for my site name was?) I love reading, gardening, writing, and running, but am generally a very, very lazy person.

I love architects, and nearly wet myself the day that I was in Frank Gehry’s office, even though I did not actually see Frank himself. However, I do love my architect the most. He’s very smart, and handsome, and talented, and someday he will win the Pritzker Prize, and you cannot have him. So there!

I love cheese, gin martinis with olives, running and black high heels (not running in black high heels, though – that sounds dangerous). I hate driving, stupid people, and having a job.

Feel free to contact me with any questions or offers of worship at gazellesoncrack (at) gmail (dot) com. And please leave comments; it makes me feel popular, and I will be your BFF if you do.

Thanks for visiting. I hope you like it. If you don’t, please go away.
