Made of Awesomesauce

Three (3!) Things Thursday

1. Sorry I missed the baby update yesterday, but I was busy doing important baby related stuff. (It is too baby-related – Alvie Bean needs to know about such things…you wouldn’t want me to neglect his education, would you?)

2. Question for those in the know – when will this extra hair out? Please tell me it’s soon. I am resigned to the fact that my extra boobs are here to stay for the duration of nursing, but really would like to move on from the extra hair. It’s driving me insane. I feel like Cousin Itt.

3. I am so ready to start exercising for real! I have been walking, and that’s been okay, but I need more! I yoga’d a bit this week. And, by a bit, I mean I pull out my prenatal yoga video and did 30 minutes (before the baby was hungry). It went pretty well. I’ve lost some flexibility – I couldn’t grab my foot to even start getting into Natarajasana – which is weird (I was still doing Urdhva Dhanurasana at 30 weeks, so it’s frustrating that I’ve lost so much flexibility). I noticed a little soreness in my…girly-parts area in some poses – most notably extended side angle (which is weird, since triangle felt just fine – and yes, I noticed that I switched from Sanskrit – bite me). ANYWAYS – yoga = good, and I can’t wait to get back to where I was. I practiced yoga up to 38 weeks (and only missed the last couple of weeks due to conflict, not due to inability), and am ready to get back to that AND to swimming. (And boy, I wish I had a picture of me doing upward bow (i.e. urdhva dhanurasana) at the beach house at New Year’s. I bet that was awesome (and by awesome, I mean hilarious). Since I don’t, you’ll have to be content with a picture of Alvie going for a walk.

Fat Baby Friday

Today was Alvie’s 2 week doctor appointment. He weighed 9.8 lbs – which is 1.8 lbs over birth weight, and 2 lbs more than he weighed two weeks ago. He is an eating champ! And it turns out that these boobs are not just for show! Go us!

Check out my chubby baby – he’s got the cutest little fat rolls on his arms and legs.

Tomorrow morning, we are headed out for our first big trip. I hate flying with a fiery passion, and knowing that I have to do it while also toting an infant makes me nervous. At least the architect will be with us tomorrow – flying back we’ll be on our own. I really need to perfect my Moby Wrapping by then.

I definitely need to pack, too – which should be interesting. I hope I don’t forget something important. Like the baby – or the car seat. Or my cell phone charger. :)

Also – how did everyone in Mystic Falls suddenly learn the Charleston? Do most teenagers just know that dance? Did I go to a bad school? And how come Damon didn’t take off his shirt even once last night? I totes have a Vampire Diaries addiction…probably partially because of this:

I usually go for the blond vamps, but I make an exception for Damon.

Shoesday! Tiny Shoes Edition!

Okay – first of all, I think I pretty much deserve a medal for only doing baby shoes THREE TIMES since I announced my pregnancy on this blog. (And the first time doesn’t even really count, as it was just a clever way to announce my pregnancy.)

BUT – at my shower on Sunday, I received the most adorable pair of baby shoes in the entire land. Seriously. It is really awesome having a friend that works for a company that makes tiny baby shoes, btw. I absolutely recommend you get one of those. Just not MY friend, as she is already taken by me & about eleventy other pregnant women. (Unless you want to become pregnant, because it is possible that proximity to my friend SL is what makes you pregnant. I don’t know.)

ANYWAYS – I just have to share the cutest, most adorable, awesomest baby boy shoes in the history of the world:

RIGHT? Tiny pirate shoes!

Happy shoesday!

PS – Do they come in a women’s size 7? I’m asking for a friend.

For the level of exhaustion I feel today, you’d think I’d had a busy weekend. Yeah – not so much.  It is possible that the fact that I left the house 3 times in 3 days (oooh – I am a party animal!) was the actual reason for the exhaustion! Pregnancy is hard, y’all!

Friday I was actually sick most of the day. I did nothing. I laid on the sofa, drank lots of water, made frequent trips to the bathroom, and tried to convince the cats to wait on me. It was not successful. I also dozed frequently, which was nice.

Saturday was a busy-ish day.

In the morning, the amazing Heather came over to pick up all our electronics we were intending to get rid of. She took everything for either recycling or to give to Think Geek. I bought her a coffee, which was not nearly enough to repay her for this amazing generosity.

After Heather took off, the architect & I headed out to a breastfeeding & newborn care class. We learned a couple valuable things – like how to swaddle & bathe a baby. However, I’m pretty sure we could’ve learned that by watching a free You Tube video. We also learned such valuable lessons as “if the baby is crying, do not shake or hit it to make it be quiet” and “don’t do street drugs while breastfeeding.”

I was a little disappointed in the class and felt that it definitely wasn’t worth what we paid for it.

Saturday evening we installed the carseat and then I relaxed.

Sunday morning, I napped (sensing a theme here?) and then talked to my parents a bit on Skype before getting ready for my baby shower. My friends the Ambitious One & Mr. Pi graciously opened up their home, and the Ambitious One, along with several of my bffs threw us an amazing baby shower.

There was a Dr. Seuss theme, and everything was just fantastic.

Just Do It!

In the basement, there was a craft station, and everyone got to decorate a bib or onesie for Alvie Bean – so much better than crazy games that involve melted candy bars!

We got a lot of great gifts for Alvie Bean and got to spend some time with our amazing group of friends. I know I’ve said it before, but we are truly blessed to have such a great group of friends in Portland. (Although our other-places friends are, of course, also awesome.)

4 weeks ’til Alvie Day!  EEK!

March 2012 Goals

Let’s look back at February, though, shall we? I hope I did better than January – that month just kind of sucked.

February 2012 Goals

  1. Finish grad school! YAY! – SUCCESS! I am finished! Yay! I even received my official finisher’s sweatshirt yesterday (just like a race – fancy!)
  2. Find a daycare for Alvie Bean starting in July! – SUCCESS! More or less – I am touring one more next week (3/9), but I think we’ve found the one we’re going with – for now.
  3. Purchase and install shelves/storage for Alvie Bean’s room. – SUCCESS! We have storage drawers, and they are full of twee little clothes!
  4. Clean out the office and make it more office-y, and less “place where junk goes to die” – half SUCCESS! The office is definitely cleaner and more officey; there’s still some work to be done, though.
  5. Finalize baby prep lists – SUCCESS! I have all my prep lists done; both for home AND work…and should actually get my lists 100% checked off by 3/15! Yay!

February 2012 Training Goals

  1. Fifteen hours of exercise-related activity (total tallied below: 15.5 hours) – 60% SUCCESS! I only hit ~9 hours. SHAME!
  2. Six yoga classes, minimum (estimated time: 7.5 hours) – 83% SUCCESS! I did 5 yoga classes; 5.75 hrs
  3. Five swims, minimum (estimated time: 3.75 hours) – 80% SUCCESSI only swam 4 times; 2.3 hrs
  4. Two 15-minute upper body weights sessions/week (estimated time: 2.25 hours) – FAIL!  I didn’t do any weights in Feb! BOO!
  5. Four visits to the fitness center for 30 minutes of cardio (estimated time: 2 hours) – FAIL! I didn’t hit the fitness center even once! BOO!

Overall – a decent month. I didn’t do as well as I’d hoped with my fitness goals, but I’m still minorly active, and am claiming that as a win (especially after last night’s kick-ass 1500 yd swim, in which I hit 1000 yds about 5 minutes sooner than in my previous swim, even though I was doing shorter sets with longer breaks! Yay!)

March 2012 Goals

  1. Get all my budget drafts done at work.
  2. Finish nursery stuff (not much left here).
  3. Start writing again, now that I don’t have to spend all my nights doing school stuff – goal is to average 750 wds/day, so a total of 23,250 words written in March.
  4. Seriously, for the love of all that’s holy, get these unused, old, junky computers, monitors, and printers OUT! I may need an exorcist at this point.
  5. Knit one tiny baby item. I haven’t knitted regularly since starting grad school!

March 2012 Training Goals

  1. Eleven hours of exercise-related activity (that is an average of 150 minutes/week; recommended for preggos)
  2. Five yoga classes, minimum (estimated time: 6.25 hours)
  3. Five swims, minimum (estimated time: 3.75 hours)
  4. One 15-minute upper body weights sessions/week (estimated time: 1 hour)
  5. One 30-minute walk/week (estimated time: 2 hours)

Please note that nowhere in my March goals does it say “have a baby.” That is one goal that I never want to have to write FAIL!  next to!

I hope your March is awesome!
