Shoe Porn!

You guys. I caved today and bought a new pair of boots.

These, in fact:

Aerosoles Mezzotint - Black

I got them a half size larger than my usual size AND they are extended calf size, so they should (fingers crossed) fit over my calves of power.

They are a low heel, but not completely flat.

AND – they are pretty cute – and according to reviews, pretty comfortable. They should arrive Friday. I am so excited, even if I can only wear the left one for awhile. I’ve been wanting a pair of cute, fairly practical tall boots for ages, and I hope these fit the bill.

So – what’s up with the fall trends this year? Let’s go to my all-time favorite store EVER and find out.

Holy balls, people. What the hell is it and why? Please tell me that you won’t be buying this. I feel like there is a very sad, very naked muppet running about somewhere. This is horrific!

These are better, right? (I know, I know – there are a lot of ankle boot haters out there, but I promise I would only wear them with jeans or pants. It’s easier for us wide-calves people to buy the ankle boots, wear them under pants, and then PRETEND they’re tall. So in your mind’s eye, just picture them taller – now how do you feel?)

Thank you to everyone who voted, including my wonderful architect.

On Tuesday, I placed the order.

I ordered from Zappos (I stopped frequenting them as much when they took away the free overnight shipping, as Endless still offers that). I got the free shipping, because I am cheap & the shoes were not. I expected them to arrive in a week. Lo and behold! Just an hour after placing my order, I got an email from Zappos letting me know that I’d been upgraded to special fancy priority shipping and that I am truly a goddess among shoe owners (or something like that). The shoes shipped out Tuesday. I received them yesterday. My heels are bleeding today. They are cute. And I think soon they will cause less bleeding – it takes awhile for patent leather to conform – and I ended up walking a LOT more today than I’d anticipated.

However, my office mate had bandaids (hello kitty, even) and now my heels are protected! It’s like a Halloween miracle.

And, because this is not NEW shoe porn, and I am a giver, I want to present you with some really nice fall boots that you should buy (and if you don’t need more boots [ha!] and have a lot of extra money, I wear a size six, and will send you my address).

I love autumn, because although in spring, I get all excited about sandals, in fall there is something better to get excited about: boots.

I love boots, although I only own 4 pairs. I do not, however, like “shooties.” They are evil – like cut-out Oxfords. I will not link them directly – it makes me feel dirty.

So – a couple of pairs of boots for your fall perusal. I think it’s important to have a good pair of boots that you can wear to work, walking around, impromptu happy hours, etc., without worrying that at some point during your day, you will seriously consider amputating your feet.

My current boots that serve that purpose are a pair of ankle-high Nine Wests with a 2″ stacked heel (in desperate need of a cobbler if I want to continue to wear them and I do). However, if I was going to buy something new (and since I do have a shoe-buying trip coming up soon), I might consider these:

The only problem with lower boots, is that they tend to require pants – which means I never wear them with my skirts. And, since I have the most monstrous, out-of-proportion calves you’ve ever seen on a tiny, delicate flower with size 6 feet and narrow little ankles, I don’t have very many options when it comes to knee-high boots. You’ll likely do better.

However, in addition to your every day boot, you also need a pair of hot, sexy party boots. Boots that you would totally wear dancing, after you’ve hit the club drink minimum…twice. Boots that are so pretty that your husband (or whoever) wouldn’t even ask how much they cost because he can’t think about finances right now. Mine are a pair of knee-high Chinese Laundry boot (strangely enough, two of my good friends here in Portland also have the same boot…they are that pretty). They’re not too uncomfortable, but they’re definitely not made for walking (miles). If I were going to replace them (and I’m not), I might go for these:
