feet

Toesday – now with 95% fewer shoes pictures and 0% more foot pictures

I have no shoes for you today. I am too depressed for shoes. Why, you might ask?

Because of these:

They do not fit well. They hurt. And while pre-surgery, I was willing to put up with some pain in the name of beautiful shoes, not anymore. Especially not when they cost that much. So, back to kate they go. :(

Also, Nordstrom’s is all “buy your fall shoes!” and I’m not ready yet! (Unless you are – let me know – I take requests.)

*le sigh*

So, I am going to talk about feet instead. Because it’s still thematic.

My feet have been pretty good. I’ve been half-assedly doing my PT exercises, which is way better than the no-assed previous commitments to PT. (In fact, last night I even got my exercise sheet out and put it on my desk and looked at it!)

The running is going reasonably well. I hope. I am running 14 miles on Sunday. I need more biking & swimming, but am getting a little of that in, too.

What I really need more of (besides time) is strength training. That is my big FAIL in the exercise world.

I have been interrupted by actual work about a half dozen times since starting this post, and the idea of doing a fall shoe preview is growing on me (since I keep accidentally clicking on the Nordstrom boot browser). BUT – I will hold strong. No boots ’til after Labor Day (we have to have some standards, right?)

So – anyways, thanks for reading super stream of consciousness blog post of the day.

In summation: shoes = good; my kate spade shoes = bad; fall boots in July = bad but something to look forward to; feet = good; my performance of PT exercises = D+; this blog post = F.

(Did you like how I switched to a letter grade system at the end?)

Shoesday!

I am just over 6 months out of my boot, almost 8 months post surgery, and 4.5 months pre-marathon.

So – “how are things with the foot,” you ask anxiously (I imagine).

I’m so glad you asked!

October 19, I was here:

ewwwww, right?

November 16, I was here:

Last Monday, I was here:

Tight bike shoes fit without pain!

(It’s been over a year since I could wear my bike shoes without pain.)

And then, last Wednesday and Thursday, I was here:

Yes – you are seeing right. I was able to wear my favorite pair of wedge sandals ALL DAY for two days in a row. That is awesome, right?

Even better?

Saturday, I was here:

Clevery Staged Photo - not in my office at ALL! ha!

The feet are feeling pretty good. Not super, but not too bad. I can wear a lot more shoes than I could even a month ago, and I have very little discomfort at the incision site anymore. Also, except for the weird not-broken toe thing a couple weeks ago, I’ve not had any issues. All the feeling has returned to the right foot, and my toenails have started growing again (although they are NASTY looking, since they hadn’t really grown for about 6 months…I’m almost ashamed to go in for a much needed pedicure.)

I ran 10 miles last week, and 7 a couple weeks prior.

The most noticeable difference now is that I can no longer wear size 6 shoes. *sob* Which means that my largish collection of size 6 stilettos is nearly useless. *double sob*

However, never let it be said that I’m not a silver-lining kind of girl – this means that I have to go buy a brand new collection of size 6.5 stilettos! Yay!

Happy shoesday, ya’ll!

The agony of defeet

The foot problem is not getting better. I ended up cutting my 5 miler short last night (although I still made myself finish four miles, because I am all about being miserable).

My right foot was hurting, and then I started getting stabby pains up & down my right shin, and THEN my right quad started cramping up (not in a “I ran fast on Sunday & my quads are a bit sore way” more like a “ARGGHHHH!!!! cramp in the middle of the night wakes you up & causes you to do bodily harm to your sleeping partner(s)” kind of way).

I turned around about 1.75 miles into the run (or, about .75 miles short of the planned turnaround), walked a bit, and ran back to the car (and then around in a big circle to get that last 1/2 mile). My leg isn’t sore today, but my foot is still really, really sore. I haven’t worn heels all week, and today I am wearing some orthopedic looking flats, and my foot still feels too big for the shoe.

I have two problems (okay, three problems) with this.

1. I have a hilly 15K this weekend that I must PR. I didn’t run the race last year due to an unfortunate combination of vomit & monsoon.

2. I have a marathon in 7.5 weeks, and last time I checked, feet are super important for completing marathons (I don’t think I can get the foot amputated, get a prosthetic fitted, get my photo taken for the cover of Runner’s World, and learn how to run on my faux-foot in 7.5 weeks).

3. I hate clunky flat shoes, and my feet look ridiculous. That is not a real problem, I know.

So, people – thoughts? Suggestions? New shoes? Go ahead w/ the amputation? Should I run tomorrow, or just not run until Sunday’s race? Should I resign myself to a life of no more running & just start eating cookies for the inevitable fattening?
