Stuff & Things

My camera still isn’t fixed, which means that all the posts that I want to do aren’t happening, because why would I type words when I could just insert photos?

Some serious harvesting has happened, but does the five-gallon bucket of potatoes exist if I don’t show it to the internet?

The corn is beginning to be eaten – and it is delicious!

The fall/winter garden was planted, and then promptly decimated by a small army of squirrels and the hot day yesterday. I’m hoping it revives.

Grape tomatoes are the only ripe tomatoes in my garden, but I’m hoping for the rest soon!

My pumpkins are getting big AND I have one butternut squash.

I have started volunteering for a great organization – and am so excited! I’m hoping to become invaluable so that they will hire me in a couple of years. (That is my new plan; my old plan was to kill the guy whose job I want & hide him in the compost bin – it was pointed out that that plan might have a couple of flaws.)

I have been running twice a week this month. I am training for my last hurrah 10K (to be held on October 3, if anyone is interested – although all participants who beat me have to buy me a beer afterwards).

I somehow injured my lower back and have been going through periods with a fairly decent amount of pain. I’m pretty sure it would be getting better on its own if I would stop sleeping on my stomach.

I wrote out my life list – and am now pretty eager to get started crossing things out.

Six weeks from today, I will be one day post-op. I have some fantastic friends who are going to come hang out with me for the few days after my surgery so that the architect doesn’t have to take more than one day off. I have some of the greatest friends ever!

I have been at my job for 2 years and 4 months; next month this will officially be the longest job I’ve ever had. Naturally, I’m starting to get itchy feet and a desire to move on. I have a countdown to graduation (Feb 2012!), which is when I plan on actually moving on (also, it is when I plan on turning 35). Eighteen more months! Woo!

PSA

If you intend to ride the bus, are waiting for the bus to arrive and are actually at the bus stop where the bus will pick you up, don’t be surprised when the bus does show up, and you have to either a) pay for your ride, or b) show your bus pass.

This happens every time you get on the bus. EVERY TIME. It shouldn’t take you 5 minutes of standing on the bus stairs digging for your pass (or wallet) when you’ve just been at the bus stop waiting for this very bus to appear and take you elsewhere.

I’m not really a big fan of the boy scouts, but everyone could take a page from their book and BE PREPARED.

Random Thought Thursday

Are you sick of me talking about swimming yet? Yes?

Oh. Dammit.

OK – I’ll move on – but first, just one more thing! Yesterday I swam 2650 yds! That is 1.5 miles! Yesterday I ran 1.1 miles (brick after my spin class). I ran less than I swam. That is full of crazy, people. CRAZY!

Anyways – other things! The oil in my car was magically changed yesterday. Sometime between when the architect dropped me off at work and when I got home. Elves. Or something.

Also – bike commuters – I think that it is super irresponsible and a trifle stupid to ride on the streets (bike lane or not) with your iPod. Both headphones. (Actually, on busy rush hour commuter streets, I think even one earbud is one too many.) I know that the cars are supposed to watch out for you, but you have to do your part, too. Pay attention! (I bike commuted today, without iPod.)

I have 9 days left of my current class – which is the last class of my first full year of grad school. The class is Information Design & Communication, and is all about fonts & colors & graphics (i.e. things I’m not very good at), so has been quite the challenge. Fun and interesting though. I finish on 6/11, and then have a 10 day break before starting year 2. My first class in year 2? Managerial Accounting. I know you’re jealous! :) (Only 11 classes + a capstone paper left until I get that MS.)

Since all my running goals have been shot out of the water this year, I was thinking of maybe training for a metric century bike ride. Biking does not hurt Damian like running, although I cannot put Damian into my bike shoes, which means my pedal stroke is not as efficient as it could be. But I have been doing more miles, and could totally ride 62.14 miles if I did a little training (long ride so far this year has only been 30 miles). Might be fun.

Tomorrow (Friday) is going to be wicked busy. Yoga, esthetician appointment, lunch (yay!), maybe a run, and then volunteering at Zoo Brew (in the rain, most likely). Saturday is going to be the opposite of busy….I will finish up my homework assignment, and then do a lot of glorious nothing.

Have a good Thursday everyone!

I hate everybody

No – not you. But you, over there? You are definitely on the list.

For some reason, this is a hard week.

And by “for some reason,” I mean, “for a reason that I’m actually aware of, but am not yet ready to share with the internets.” The only people who get to know the “some reason” at this moment are those lucky close friends & architects who are subjected to my whining.

BUT – don’t worry, I will probably bring you down by the end of the week, too, so that you can also be miserable with me.

In NON-misery-related news, I am on spring break this week (hence the light blogging, I’m too busy not having school work, not showing up to work-work, and not exercising at all to have any time left for blogging!). PARTY! WOO! Or something.
