Writerly Wednesday: Win Books!

Hi! How’s it going? Good, right? You had a good US Holiday yesterday wherein you ate grilled foods, day drank, and then bitched about your inconsiderate neighbors who spent roughly a month’s worth of wages on the loudest fireworks and set them all off until midnight or later.

Anyway – here we are on the other side of the loudest holiday, and probably only have 2-3 more nights of this bullshit before people run out of exploding things. Hopefully.

Next week, I’m doing an event with some other writers, but we’ve been doing scavenger hunt clues every day leading up to it. You can attend the event, check our Amazon book blurbs for answers to the scavenger hunt questions, and then tune in next week for chances to win summer book baskets from me and other awesome writers!

So come on over and check us out! I’ll be teaming up with Colleen Vanderlinden next Friday (the 13th!) to talk about books and killing! I hope to see you there!

I’m pleased to report that The Waning Moon is now available on Kindle Unlimited. Pop on over to read and enjoy! I’d appreciate it greatly if you’d leave a review when you finish, regardless of how you felt about it.

And if you haven’t yet read/reviewed The Cardinal Gate, that’s also available on Amazon as a Kindle ebook, a paperback, and through Kindle Unlimited as well!

Writerly Wednesday

I am still unable to upload new images. (If anyone knows how to change my image URLs with magic, let me know. Nothing else, including running PHP code, is working.) However, I don’t want to forget to remind everyone that The Waning Moon is coming out in 6 days! (AHHH!)

Old image. Sigh. ANYWAY – click the link! Add me to your Goodreads TBR pile!

It’s available for preorder!

And, if you’ve read The Cardinal Gate, I would super-duper appreciate an Amazon review! I don’t even care if you liked it or not. (I’m working towards a full set of stars.)

Funny story: I got my very first negative review this week, and I was thrilled. Legitimately thrilled. First of all, it was a weird negative review.

Starts out most excellent then apparently the author decided the plot needed thickening and devolved it into a typical jealousy filled bodice ripper.

What does that even mean? Is a thicker plot bad? I know bodice-rippers aren’t. My personal summary of this review (that I’m considering putting on the book cover to boost sales) is: Too much plot, not enough clothes.

You’d buy that, right? RIGHT?!

Anyway, I’m back to the salt mines where I simultaneously do my day job and try to figure out what the fuck is wrong with my image URLs that they won’t change. (I do not want to re-upload and attach 1500 images. I just don’t.)

I’m also finishing up final changes and formatting for the Waning Moon, so I can upload it to all the pre-order places!

Review! Preorder! Buy! (You really should. You’re so pretty. So very, very pretty.)

(Also – check out the sidebar for the newsletter sign-up. A new issue with Raj, Chapter 4 is out next week and a new Eleanor brew review from one of the stops she made in The Waning Moon.)

Writerly Wednesday

Heya, people! I need to get back to The Waning Moon, so I just have a few bullets for you today.

  • If you read The Cardinal Gate, please, please, please leave it a review on Amazon. Even if you just thought it was kinda meh – a couple 2 & 3-star ratings won’t make me cry (maybe just don’t tell me your real name). Unless you’re also a Cissell. Those reviews get taken down right away.
  • Newsletter goes out next week! Chapter three of Raj’s story will be included as well as a new semi-regular feature “Eleanor’s brew review.” Sign up in the sidebar (or literally, on any page of this website). I’ll be sending out the first two chapters of Raj’s story ahead of time (I know I have a few subscribers since the last newsletter went out, and I want you to have a chance to get caught up!) (Pssssst: Also in the May newsletter? Title reveal and tentative publication schedule for book three!)
  • Edits are going well on The Waning Moon. I’m just trying to clear up a couple bigger items and then it’ll be ready to go back to the editor for the big look-over. There will be a special newsletter edition in early June with the cover reveal before the special reveal on 6/20.
  • I’ll have pre-order links for The Waning Moon up around 6/1.
  • AND, if you haven’t read The Cardinal Gate yet, it’s available on Kindle, in paperback through Amazon & in Kindle Unlimited.

Writerly Wednesday: The Waning Moon Edits

I’ve been reviewing the edits I’ve gotten back, and I am pleased. PLEASED! She deleted zero deaths (that I’ve noticed so far…*side eyes*).

What I’m not pleased about? My continued inability to drag my worthless carcass out of bed at a reasonable hour (a reasonable hour in this case is 5:45 am, which is my current alarm time). This morning, since I didn’t have a Bean to ready, I didn’t get up until 6:30! (And, since I’d neglected to make coffee and prep my breakfast/lunch/ootd last night, I had no coffee, no breakfast, and couldn’t find my pants.) (I eventually found my pants. I don’t want you to think that I went to work pants-less.)

Part of the problem is that I’m still staying awake too late. Even when I do get said worthless carcass into bed at a reasonable hour, I’m not shutting down soon enough. I’ve seen midnight more times than is reasonable. I’m going to have to start listening to my “go-to-sleep” meditation which has a 95% success rate of knocking me out in less than the 12 minutes it plays. My hangup? (And this is weird, maybe…) I feel awkward listening to my sleep meditation when there’s another person who can also hear it. BUT! Sleep and the ability to get up in the morning probably supersede the mild awkward I feel (and I’m almost 100% positive the Beer Guy isn’t going to be fussed if I play a quiet 12 minute meditation every night).

BACK TO THE WANING MOON and all things Eleanor. I plan on spending Thursday-Sunday on the first half of the book and next week on the second half. The following week will be working on the bigger issues I need to fix before sending it back to my editor for a final pass.

I’m working on re-outlining Book Three (title reveal in my May newsletter, along with chapter 3 of Raj’s story AND a beer review by Eleanor-sign up in the sidebar and get immediate-esque access to chapters one & two of Raj’s story) and plan on having that to my editor (after I check with her for availability) in mid-July.

The one thing still missing from this equation? Writing. I’m doing a lot of rewriting, and edits, and I’ll be writing new scenes for Book 3, but I’m anxious to get started with a blank page. I’ve outlined a new book in a new world, but for some reason decided that I needed a project that would require reams of research…I’ve started that process, too. (Stay Tuned for more information!)

Happy hump day, everyone! (Don’t forget, The Cardinal Gate is available on Amazon in ebook, paperback, and Kindle Unlimited – get your copy today!)

Writerly Wednesday: The Waning Moon updates

I am deep in edit world – trying to incorporate feedback received from 3/5 of my beta readers. (The other 2/5: you know who you are…menacing glare…)

One of the fun comments I received from perpetual first reader and PSM, Cat, is “you super hated relationships…when you wrote this.”

(Spoiler: I wrote this in 2014-2015 and I was not, as she mentioned, in a good place relationship-wise.) (Apologies in advance, readers who enjoy romantic love stories.)

This means that I’m skewing away from PNR and more towards urban fantasy (but sexy urban fantasy, because Raj…).

Oh, Raj…

I promise that there will be an HEA for Eleanor. Eventually.

(This also means I’m not in a kill-count competition with Colleen Vanderlinden. Must up my game. She is very murdery.)

I got a peek at the “close to finished” cover for The Waning Moon and it is going to be amazing! Here is the tiniest little peek for you…

Just a draft, but squeeeee!

Things are on schedule, and I’m still anticipating a June release date. I’ll have this to my editor in about a week, and when I get her revisions back, I’ll have a better idea of exact timing. Once that happens, I’ll set my release date in stone, get a cover reveal date set, put everything up for pre-order, and inform my legions of adoring fans!

If you haven’t yet picked up a copy of The Cardinal Gate, there’s still time! It’s available exclusively on Amazon right now (including Kindle Unlimited). In addition, if you want more Raj (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t want more Raj?), you can sign up for my newsletter. Raj’s origin story and his first millennia of shenanigans is being released through my newsletter in serial format. When you sign up, I’ll send you the first chapter to get you caught up!

As always, if you’ve read, I would really, really appreciate it if you would take the time to review it on Amazon (and Goodreads, too, if you’re so inclined). Thank you!

I’m starting on edits for the third book in the series immediately following getting The Waning Moon to the editor. I’m not set yet on the title…but have a sneaking suspicion there’s going to be a lot  of rewrites on this one (the hazards of writing three books in a row before editing the first means that things often have gone off in a weird direction), but am committed to getting it out 3-4 months after The Waning Moon. Fair warning: Book the third is going to be a whole lotta Raj…

And now – back to work for me!
